Croque Madame

Lately I love having sandwiches for lunch. It’s quick and healthy (sort of…hahaha…yummy butter~~~). Especially sandwich with egg, cheese and ham, I heart it.  Today, I learn of eating the sandwich in a new way. To make it a French version, simply place the egg on top of the sandwich. The Croque Madame was actually invented in Paris sometime around 1910 as a fast food to be eaten in cafés and bistros. The sandwich is called Croque Madame because the fried egg on top is a reminiscent of a lady’s hat. How cute is that?!

Just a little change, the presentation looks beautiful. The taste is richer and creamier. And instead of whipping up a special sauce, I use the European Maggi soy sauce  and some pepper. The sandwich hits just the spot. Bon appétit!

Croque Madame
Serving: 2 sandwiches
Ingredients:
4 slices of bread (wheat or white)
1 tablespoon butter, room temperature
4 thin slices good-quality ham
2 thin slices Gruyère or Emmetaler cheese
2 eggs
pepper and Maggi soy sauce for taste

Preparation:
In a large frying pan on medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon of butter. Fry one side of each slide of bread to golden brown and then flip over to the other side. Add the rest of the butter. Fry till golden brown as well. Put them aside.

Place each ham with a slice of cheese on top in the pan to sear for 30 seconds or until the cheese start to melt.  Remove and make 2 sandwiches with the bread.

Meanwhile the ham and bread are cooking, prepare a pan with some oil and fried 2 sunny side up eggs. Make sure the egg whites are not runny or according to your preference. Place each egg on top of each sandwich.

Sprinkle pepper and Maggi soy sauce for taste. Add some greens for side
